ABOUT PARINEETA

"Parineeta" was one of the most successful Bollywood movies in 2005, starring the usually less serious actor Saif Ali Khan and the new actress Vidy Balan in her first movie.

The Story plays in 1962, Calcutta. Shekhar Rai (Saif Ali Khan), son of the rich business man Nabin Rai, notices, that he is in love with Lolita (Vidy Balan). She is an orphan and grew up together with Shekhar and his family. They became best friends and Lolita was a major inspiration for Shekhar's music. However, when Girish Babu (Sanjay Dutt) comes back from London and starts to court Lolita, their relationship falls apart. The situation gets even more difficult for the two lovers when Shekhar's father decides to buy the house in which Lolita's beloved uncle lives in.

Vidy Balan is the newcomer in Indian Cinema 2005. She, however, announced, that "Parineeta" will probably her first and only movie, as she wants to concentrate more on her family. Saif Ali Khan, best known for comedies like "Salaam Namaste", shows himself from a totally different side. Serious and charming, he once more shows his qualities as an actor.
